How to Become a Blackjack Dealer

Blackjack is a card game where the aim is to reach 21 without exceeding it, using multiple decks of standard playing cards. Jack, Queen and King face cards (Jack, Queen and King) each count 10 while Aces may either count 1 or 11. Each dealer deals two cards to players who may hit (receive additional cards) or stand (keep current hand). When dealt two cards by dealer they may either hit (receive additional cards) or stand (keep current hand). The winner is determined by who comes closer than 21 – close enough that when hand is closer than 21 than dealer you win and your original bet will return equaling original wager; tie results in “push”, where both parties retain original bet.

There are various strategies for playing blackjack, but the easiest and most reliable way to increase your odds of victory is with basic strategy. This method has been mathematically demonstrated as the optimal way to play each hand in every situation; learning it only takes minutes! By sticking to basic strategy you have a greater chance of beating the dealer and increasing your winning chances.

Novice players often miss golden opportunities by playing their hands too cautiously. For example, they may hesitate to hit 16 against a dealer’s 7 or fail to split pairs of 2s when the odds indicate it would increase their odds of success – all leading them away from making more money in winning than experienced players who take every advantage possible to increase their odds of victory.

Some blackjack games provide players with the option of purchasing insurance at a rate of 2 to 1. Buying insurance can help reduce your risk if a dealer possesses blackjack; however, due to fixed bets this method of play does not account for risk aversion and thus should be treated separately from its application in other settings.

Blackjack dealers typically work in casino settings and must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Their jobs involve standing for long periods while using their hands to manipulate objects as well as communicating with customers. As a casino blackjack dealer, you will also be exposed to secondhand smoke and fumes as well as moderate noise levels. Aside from being physically capable of fulfilling this role – including lifting and bending tasks – being required to wear eye protection and gloves might also be part of it. Typically, blackjack dealers must be 18 or over in order to work in casinos. Dependent upon the hiring employer, other qualifications might include training, prior experience with other casino table games, fluency in multiple languages and knowledge of specific software used to track wagers and payouts. They may also request references, resumes and possibly references alongside an online or paper application process. It is important to remember that hiring processes may take several weeks before applicants hear back from potential employers.
